Where was this
photo taken?

Sherlocale is the AI photo location finder. Snap any street, building, or landscape and instantly know the country, region, and the visual clues that gave it away.

Works on real-world photos and on screenshots of street-view rounds you're stuck on.

First 5 guesses are on us. No account needed beyond Google Sign-In.

How the AI location finder works

Three taps. No setup. No upload manager. Just your photo and an answer.

1. Snap a photo

Take a photo of where you are — or point your camera at your monitor to capture a street-view round you're playing.

2. AI analyzes it

Google's Gemini vision model examines architecture, vegetation, signs, road markings, license plates, and the position of the sun.

3. Get the location

Country, region, confidence score, a pin on the map, and a bullet list of the clues the AI used to make its call.

Two ways to use it

Whether you're standing somewhere unfamiliar or stuck on a round of your favorite map-guessing game, Sherlocale doesn't judge — it just figures it out.

Real-world photos

A street, a building, a landscape you don't recognize. Snap it and let Sherlocale tell you what country and region you're looking at — plus the visual clues that gave it away.

Screen captures

Playing a street-view guessing round on your laptop and out of ideas? Point your phone at the screen, snap, and get an instant second opinion. Sherlocale knows to ignore browser chrome, monitor bezels, and the in-game UI.

Frequently asked questions

How does Sherlocale identify the location of a photo?

Sherlocale uses Google's Gemini vision AI to examine the visual clues in your photo — architecture, vegetation, road markings, signs, license plates, vehicles, and the angle of the sun — and infers the most likely country and region. You also get a confidence score and a list of the clues used.

Is Sherlocale free?

Yes. Your first five location guesses are completely free. After that, an optional Pro subscription will unlock unlimited guesses.

Can it find the location of a screenshot from a map game?

Yes. Sherlocale works on real-world photos and on screenshots of street-view scenes captured from your computer screen. It's specifically tuned to ignore browser chrome, monitor bezels, and the on-screen interface of street-view guessing games.

Does Sherlocale store my photos?

No. Photos are processed in memory and immediately discarded. They are never stored on our servers and are never used to train AI models. Read the full privacy policy.

What languages does Sherlocale support?

The app interface and the AI's reasoning are available in English and Polish, with more languages on the way. The language follows your device locale by default and can be overridden in Settings.

What devices does Sherlocale run on?

Sherlocale is currently an Android app. iOS and a web version are on the roadmap.
